At Kinley Kay, it is our joy to help you live life by your design, which means having control of those things that take up your time.

After learning about this subtle yet impactful service, I knew that I had the answer that I was looking for and that lash enhancements would now be a permanent makeup service offered at the studio.

So let’s chat about the Q’s and the A’s of this service:

So what exactly is a lash enhancement?

Our Lash Enhancement (aka Eyeliner Tattoo) service creates a thin, semi-permanent line of micro-pigment that sits at the root of your lashes and gives the illusion of thicker, darker lashes by adding density to the lash line.

At Kinley Kay, we call it a lash enhancement because it looks so incredibly natural. When our artists are trained, we focus on creating beautifully subtle additions to enhance your already gorgeous eyes. When we create the liner, we make sure that when the eye is shut there is minimal trace of the eyeliner, creating a much more natural finish as there is with a typical cosmetic eyeliner. So if you are looking for permanent winged liner or super thick lines, this is not the service for you!

That sounds amazing, but how will I know if I am a good candidate for this service?

While this service is great for almost anyone, before you book the service, here is a list of contraindications (i.e. situations where this service is not the right fit for you):

  • you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • you are diabetic
  • you have a healing disorder or a blood thinning disorder
  • you are on Accutane or steroids
  • you are undergoing chemo or radiation
  • you are a sunbather or use tanning beds
  • you have lash extensions (however this is a great service to pair with a lash lift + tint for a naturally enhanced look!)

This sounds intriguing, but I am scared it will hurt. What is the pain level of this process?

Everyone truly is different. For some, the sensation is similar to a sunburn, while others have reported the process to be pain free. In order to make sure that the process is comfortable for you, we always apply a topical numbing cream to ensure the most enjoyable experience during the appointment.

I think this is the service that I have been looking for! All I need to know is: how can I best prepare?

For the most part, preparing for this service is easy-peasy! With that being said, here are some important notes as you prepare for your appointment:

4 weeks before and after:

  • No Filler and Botox in the area of the tattoo
  • Stop Laser treatments or peels

7 days before and after:

  • Stop use of acid based serums and retinol

2 days before and after:

  • Stop use of blood thinners
  • Stop medications, including allergy meds
  • Don’t eat foods that include cinnamon, garlic, turmeric, ginger and cayenne
  • Stop use of vitamin E and fish oils
  • No caffeine (we know, we know… it’s worth it! 😉)

And last, but certainly not least, be sure you can refrain from sweating, swimming and using a sauna for 7 days post-procedure! Showering is okay, but we will simply ask that you keep your face away from the shower head and avoid extra hot water temperatures.

Cool! My next question: what can I expect after the appointment?

In order to achieve best results, it is super important to follow the post-care instructions given to you by your permanent makeup artist.

Here is what they will share with you:

  1. For 7 days, no sweating, swimming, sauna, sun tanning, laser treatment, chemical treatments, retin-A, glycolic acid, picking, scratching or peeling, acidic products, makeup on the tattooed area, driving in open air vehicles, touching of the tattooed area except for when rinsing and applying aftercare.
  2. Be sure to:
    1. Wash 2-3 times a day with a light/neutral soap (with clean hands only)
    2. Do not scrub the tattooed area, use gentle motions instead
    3. Apply aftercare 2-3 times a day (new Q-tip for every application)
    4. Keep out of the sun for 7 days

Follow these steps, and you will be golden!

Finally, how much does this service cost?

The price of the service will vary depending on a couple of factors:

  1. Whether you would like to get a your upper lash line or double lash line (upper and lower) enhancements.
  2. The skill of the permanent makeup artist.

To break it down for you:

  • If you only want either your upper OR lower lash line enhanced, pricing starts at $398, depending on the skill of your PMU artist. In order to make it easier on the budget, we have our pricing are divided between the two appointments. $199 is due at the initial service and $199 is due at your 4-12 week touch up.
  • If you want both upper AND lower lash line enhancement, pricing starts at $600, depending on the skill of your PMU artist. Again, payments are split between the two appointments. $300 is due at the initial service and $300 is due at your 4-12 week touch up!
